Day 6 of #parentingquranjournaling with @muslim.parenting and @faakihah * The #sunnah really is the perfect example in everything. * As with all things, apply moderation even to your speed of walking so you neither cause hurt nor appear lame. * Follow the example of Rasulullah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in all aspects of your behaviour and you will never regret it. * Use a dignified tone and volume in your speech. * Do not lose your respect by sounding like a braying ass, nor by being too timid and soft. Day 5 of #parentingquranjournaling with @muslim.parenting and @faakihah * More on social interaction: * "And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful." * Do not turn your face away from people when you meet them--this is against good adab (etiquette). Maintain a pleasant disposition and make people feel respected. * You are standing on dunya (lowest place), you come from a low place and you return to a low place. Understand this reality and walk with humility. Yet be moderate. Let your gait be neither haughty nor degrading. Day 4 of #parentingquranjournaling with @muslim.parenting and @faakihah * "Oh my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed [all] that is of the matters [requiring] determination." [31:17] * Make salah the fixed pillars of your day. Everything else can be negotiated, but never compromise on your salah. * Work to make a difference in the community but be prepared for backlash and deal with it with grace and patience. * Your salah is a guard against personal evil and working for the community is to ensure the uprightness of everyone around you--but do it with dignity, seek Allah's help and guidance and work hard. Day 3 of #parentingquranjournaling with @muslim.parenting and @faakihah * Today I am reminded of Allah's encompassing knowledge. * "Oh my son, indeed if wrong should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or in the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Indeed Allah is Subtle and Acquainted." [31:16] * Believe in the infinite knowledge of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'aala. * Nothing is hidden or lost from Him. * You can't hide yourself nor the evil that you have wrought. You can't bury the evidence in the ground or shoot it out into space in the hope that it will be untraceable. * Whatever Allah conceals is out of His mercy and wisdom, because He is fully aware of even our innermost thoughts. * * * #quranjournaling #surahluqman

Day 2 of #parentingquranjournaling with @muslim.parenting and @faakihah and today's lesson is along the lines of #filialpiety -- appreciating and serving one's parents even if there's a major difference of opinion. * "And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do." [31:14-15] * This ties in nicely with the dua of Sulaiman (peace be upon him) in Surah Naml: * رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَدْخِلْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِي عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ * "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants." Upon the advice of some elders, I have been reciting Surah Luqman from the time I found out I was pregnant until now. It's a beautiful surah and I feel like I'm directly talking to my child when I read it. (I hope you're listening, babe!) * I'm glad that @muslim.parenting and @faakihah have decided to reflect on my favourite verses from this surah and I'm jumping on board. Here's my part from Day 1 of #parentingquranjournaling * The very first concept to instill in your child is that of #tawheed. It is also the most important. * Shirk is to be avoided in all circumstances. * Don't even turn to your parents when you can turn to Allah. Even if you're afraid to sleep in your room by yourself, remember that Allah is with you. * Do not depend on anyone more than you depend on Allah.
